"So why are we called the Galt Kiltie Band when you are located in Cambridge?"

The answer is politics: Back a few years ago the towns of Galt, Hespler and Preston were amalgamated to form the new city of Cambridge. Was it a good idea? We're not so sure... But we decided there was no way we were going to change our name. Ever since our founding we have been known as the Galt Kilte Band and have played concerts within Galt and the surrounding area. So in all practicality, the alamgamation did not really change things much for us except for creating this confusing city name of Cambridge.

Cambridge began as a composite hybrid city in 1973, when the three municipalities of Galt, Preston and Hespeler and the settlement of Blair were amalgamated into a single legal entity under a new name. (A new name that was not so very new -- Preston was once known as Cambridge Mills.) There was considerable resistance to this "shotgun marriage", to this edict from on high, among the local population. A healthy sense of rivalry had always governed relations among our three communities. Even today, while our residents will tell the outside world that they call Cambridge home, they will often identify themselves to each other as citizens of Galt or Preston or Hespeler.
