1959: Playing for Queen Elizabeth II

A Royal Engagement

On Thursday, July 2nd. 1959, Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the 2nd., visited the City of Galt. She arrived at 3:15 p.m. via the Royal Train at the C.N.R. station at Concession Street. In a six car motorcade, flanked by Royal Canadian Mounted Police on white motorcycles, She travelled up Ainslie St.S., to Mill St., to Main St. and then Shade St. to Soper Park. The Kiltie Band played prior to her arrival and when the Queen was conducted to a platform opposite the band stand, (which is now torn down), the Kilties played "God Save The Queen". She signed the City guest register and made a presentation to Girl Guide - Susan Gordon and Boy Scout - Ian Ferguson. She left on the Royal Train at 3:55 P.M. with Scottish airs being played by the H.L.I. Pipe Band.Janet Ditner presented Her with a bouquet of flowers.
