Brian Beard, Conductor

Brian graduated from teachers college and then went on to Waterloo Lutheran University to obtain his Bachelor of Arts degree in music. He began his teaching career at the School for the Blind in Brantford. He taught music at Waterford District High School and later became the head of the music department at North Park Collegiate, a position he held until his retirement from teaching in 1996.

Over the course of his career, Brian has been affiliated with many musical groups including the Brantford Memorial Concert Band, which he conducted for over 20 years. He was a member of the Brant County Teacher’s Choir, the Brant Choral and Orchestral Society, the St. James Gilbert and Sullivan Society and the Brant Men of Song.

Gord Cupskey, Assistant Conductor

Gord Cupskey has been a full time member of the Galt Kiltie Band (GKB) since joining as a 10 year old trumpeter in 1979. Living all his life here in Cambridge, Gord is a graduate of Galt Collegiate Institute. Although excelling at music through the years, he decided to follow in his Grandfathers footsteps and pursue an education in Carpentry. His flair for “hands on” work has since lead him into the locksmith business. He has held many committee positions including 7 years as our President.

Gord continues to pursue musical interests by playing and instructing in other groups as well. He is a Music Director with the Preston Scout House Alumni Band, and also has his own group, the Silver Leaves Brass Ensemble.

In 2009 Gord expressed an interest in conducting the Kilties, and, with the support of the board, began training as a conductor. He was offered (and accepted) the position of Assistant Band Master in 2010.
